Our Expansion Continues with the Launch of Kwalee China
2020 has been a big and extremely busy year for us here at Kwalee, with the launch of more chart-topping games, our publishing partnership with Buildbox and the opening of our new Bengaluru studio in India. Not to mention the big changes we’ve embraced since the COVID-19 pandemic has struck the world.
But it’s only August, so our continuous growth in 2020 isn’t stopping there, as we’re extremely excited to announce that we’re in the process of building a new team in Beijing, China!
Why we’re expanding into China
The Chinese market has always been an important one for us, and an area we’ve wanted to build on for quite some time. For our games, this is of course down to the sheer amount of players we can reach and having a team in China will make this much easier, as we can work more closely with key partners we have in the region, without the restriction of travel or time zones.
Outside of this and as a publisher, our expansion into China brings more exciting opportunities, as we’ll also be able to build stronger connections with more Chinese game developers and to help them to top charts around the world with their creations.
China stands out as a country of incredible innovation, so if we want to work with some of the most exciting game developers in the world, we knew we needed a presence here, alongside our headquarters in Leamington Spa and new Bangalore studio.
Say hello to Penny, our first Kwalee China team member!
Kwalee China is already taking shape with the hire of our very first team member: Penny Qian. Joining us as Head of Business Development, Penny brings with her a huge amount of experience in the industry, including roles at AppLift, Tencent and Applovin.
Penny had this to say about joining the Kwalee family: ‘Having worked in the games industry for over three years, primarily within mobile, I’ve long been an admirer of Kwalee and their amazing growth in the hypercasual space. When the opportunity arose to be a part of this success story and to help the business really grow in China, I couldn’t turn it down. I’m looking forward to using what I know and my connections to really help grow Kwalee in China, and can’t wait to see the great games that come out of this as a result!‘
This excitement to expand Kwalee in the country is echoed by our Founder David Darling CBE: ‘China is one of the biggest and most exciting markets in the world, and while we have been able to grow at a great rate to this point, the China office presents an opportunity to become even more of an international brand and it was clear it was the next step we needed to make.
‘Kwalee China will benefit all of our work, as stronger relationships with partners in the country will help to bring our games to a wider audience, but we’re also very excited to meet more developers in this area. There’s such innovative talent in China and with our experience in publishing mobile games, we know this could result in the perfect partnership between us and this pool of talent. My aim was always to grow Kwalee internationally, and it’s great to see that happening.’
From all of us at Kwalee, we can’t wait to see where this takes us and for what might come next during an amazing year of growth! Stay tuned.
